Liverymen Katharine Ray and Jonathan Hook represented the Charity Projects Committee at a visit to Thames21's flood alleviation project at Oxleas wood near Eltham in South East London on 30 September. Thames 21 is a charity that we have supported with the provision of gloves for a number of years. Thames21 works to transform London and the Thames Basin into a healthier, more climate-resilient region with rivers that everyone can enjoy. It partners with local communities to reconnect people with their rivers, boosting well-being, increasing biodiversity, and enhancing resilience to climate change.

The project involves installing leaky dams along the River Wogebourne and its tributaries which flow through the heart of the woodland and also creating dead hedges in eroded areas to protect and encourage the recovery of the woodland understory. It was great to be able to help out and see our gloves in action. I'd highly recommend the session to other Glovers wishing to volunteer.
