The Glovers' Golden Glove Award for Innovation
The Worshipful Company of Glovers of London has been at the heart of the glove trade since being formally established in 1349. The Golden Glove Award was created over 40 years ago to promote and recognise innovation in this ancient industry.
Gloves have been worn as far back as Tutankhamun and have been a fashion staple throughout the ages. In the 21st century the glove industry may have moved from its fashion roots (although gloves for both men and women will never go out of style) to more practical requirements. Today virtually every industry has a requirement for gloves, from firefighters to healthcare; from the police to tank drivers. And of course there are a proliferation of sports gloves for riders, golfers, goalies, and cricketers to name a few.
But gloves are also at the forefront of other elements of innovation such as the use of haptic gloves - a piece of wearable technology that allows users to experience a sense of touch in virtual and augmented reality environments. And of course glove type devices that assist people with upper limb differences such as the 2024 Award winner Koalaa.
If you or your company has developed a gloving or hand prosthetic product you are invited to participate.
The Award winner will be presented with the Award at a prestigious lunch taking place in one of the City of London’s sumptuous Livery Halls. And the Glovers will promote the award on both its website and on social media.
The criteria on which entries will be judged are simple:
- Is the product unique in concept, design or performance?
- Does it use new technology or techniques?
- Does it provide new levels of comfort, or exceptional fit?
- Is it a development that changes the way the product is viewed, or enables the wearer to achieve what could not be achieved previously?
Please note the very basic rules - the judges' decision is final, no entries will be returned, and the award will only be made if, in the opinion of the judges, there is a truly "innovative" winner. Please address any queries to:
Although entries are invited on an annual basis, the award is only given if a product meets all the requirements listed above.
