69 Glovers gathered in Naples for the Master's Weekend led by the Master and Mistress Mike and Karyn. And what a weekend it was. Staying in a hotel on the historic waterfront gazing across to the beautiful Castel dell’Ovo and Mount Vesuvius as a background, the weekend commenced with a fizz reception and - given the heat - a semi-formal dinner (black tie not required!).
The following day we set off for a guided tour of Pompeii which was as spectacular and interesting as hoped for - and included an expert tour of the restored tannery, a very special opportunity as not only is this is closed to the public but no others are known to have survived the ages.
Having seen the ancient city and tannery the evening commenced with a reception at the Unione Commerciali or Chamber of Commerce where we found out about the current state of the leather and glove industry from Chiroteca and their work to support master glove makers, train the next generation of artisans, drive sustainable research and continue the luxury status of Made in Naples!They surprised us with a video of our tour of the tannery!
A casual dinner that night saw Glovers doing what we do best - enjoying each other's company!
The following day we had a guided tour of Naples - exploring the grand architecture, palaces, museums and piazzas with the odd cafe and gelato for good measure!
And our final evening was spent dining on numerous fish courses on the waterside looking across the bay. And what a fun filled, noisy night that was!
All in all 69 weary but happy Glovers went home - definitely Happily in Napoli! A big thank you to Master and Mistress Glover for such a fun and sun filled time away in good company.
