CPC Chairman Christine Smith, past Chair Maggie Manwaring and CPC member Hilary Miller visited the London College of Fashion, Golden Lane London on 8th November. The visit was arranged by Liveryman Lindsey Riley, a director within the college.
The college holds two classes at the start of each year, where up to 30 students learn how to make leather gloves by hand. These classes have been supported by the WCG for the past 4 years.
Members of the Charity Projects Committee were introduced to current LCF students on the conceptual artefact course. Though not glove making, the students demonstrated the transferable skills in their work which is commensurate with glove making.
Design, pattern making, cutting out, construction and sewing. Learning how to handle leather they demonstrated exquisite sewing. All these skills are used in glove making, showing the varying methods the gloving students will be introduced to in Feb 2023.
